How FixRadio Post Inspired Custom Solutions UK to Drive Change in Construction!
Address issues understand whats going on or better still whats not going on. Lets get the community talking, Lets take control and re design the construction industry how we want it.
While scrolling through Fix Radio, I came across a post that struck a chord: How can we find 1.3 million new tradespeople by 2034? Though this post wasn’t from us at Custom Solutions, it raised a critical question that aligns with what we’ve been thinking about—how to revitalize the construction industry and address the pressing labor shortages we all face.
Inspired by that post, we decided to take the conversation further, not just asking the same question, but exploring actionable solutions. At Custom Solutions, we believe that we, the people on the ground, are best positioned to shape the future of the construction industry. This blog will explore how tradespeople, contractors, and workers can take control of their destiny, instead of waiting for guidance from a government that has often seemed distant and disconnected from the realities of the job site.
Taking Control of the Construction Industry's Future
The question raised by Fix Radio is just the beginning of a much larger discussion. As the construction industry grapples with challenges like labor shortages, rising material costs, and inconsistent government policies, we need to focus on worker-led solutions. Instead of waiting for top-down reforms, it's time for us to take the initiative.
What We Can Do
-
Expanding Apprenticeships: One clear way to bridge the skills gap is by enhancing apprenticeship schemes. At Custom Solutions, we believe experienced tradespeople should play a bigger role in mentoring the next generation of workers. With responsibilities bring a future building company in any younger generation. What effort we commit now will pay fourfold later.
-
Leveraging Technology: Another key area of focus is digitisation, which could help improve efficiency and streamline processes in everything from planning to material procurement. We’ve seen the industry begin to adopt new technologies, but there's much more to be done. The key is using any form or digitisation in the correct manner. The problems we have is when and where its used. Any for of digitalisation for workers in the field should be a minimum, allowing them to create hands on, and build our real life world. With NO red tape!
-
Addressing Material Costs: The unpredictability of material pricing is a significant concern. We’ve talked about how global supply chain issues and rising costs for materials like concrete and timber (especially due to the loss of Russian birch) (this is a personal affect our business has had!) are impacting projects. Solutions could include better data tracking and resource planning systems to avoid last-minute price hikes. Digital tracking would held speed up any process where answers are needed quick to keep things moving. What we must have is a process to double check the previous this is where the like of AI will flourish. If USED CORRECTLY!
-
Creating More Transparent Supply Chains: Supply chain volatility has caused havoc in construction, with fluctuating costs impacting project budgets. Custom Solutions is advocating for more transparency and simplified pricing structures for essential materials to provide stability. My Simple answer would be a Construction Digital Asset/Fund that manages all cost associated with building, with not just one person in charge but the Users, working in a way like a bank on a blockchain. More on this later!
-
Reforming Immigration Policies: As Brexit has cut off a vital stream of skilled foreign labor, there is an urgent need to reform immigration policies or introduce flexible work visas to ensure projects aren’t delayed by labor shortages. Our country should be build on greatness. Are we wrong strting with our own first! I don't think so, at the end of the day if its all our past generations that have payed to be where we are! we sure should be able to dictate where our fund should go first. If you cant afford to feed your self should you feed others. Some thing are impossible unless helped in the reight directions. There should be enough to go around!
Let’s Lead the Way
At Custom Solutions UK, we’re not content to sit back and wait for someone else to fix these issues. The future of the construction industry should be shaped by those who are part of it US. From tackling the labor shortage to driving innovation with new technologies, we want this blog to be a platform for discussing real solutions that can help move the industry forward.
